The right to vote is given to all Indian citizens above the age of 18, irrespective of their caste, religion or economic status. All Indians who are eligible to vote can apply for a voter’s ID card and participate in the electoral process.
Besides allowing the individual to take part in elections, the voter ID card can also be used as proof of identity and proof of address, as it is a government issued photo identity card. For this purpose, all the information contained in the card should always be updated and correct.
Occasionally there might be errors in the information printed on the voter ID card, such as the name or address being misspelled or errors in other information mentioned on the card.
The Election Commission of India has simplified the process for correcting the address mentioned in the voter ID card, making it easier for individuals to update the card with their correct addresses.
Making a correction in your voter ID card is now a simple process that can be done either offline by visiting an electoral office or online, where you can submit the form and documents online.
To correct your address, you will have to submit an application form (Form 8) and attach supporting documents mentioning your correct address.
The application will be verified and you will receive your voter’s ID card with the changed address if verification is completed successfully.
A more detailed procedure is mentioned below.
