Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee or DSGMC is an autonomous organisation which manages Gurdwaras in Delhi state. DSGMC also manages various educational institutions, hospitals, old age homes, libraries and other charitable institutions in Delhi. It is headquartered in Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib, near Parliament House.In 1971, the Government of India entrusted the management, through an ordinance, to a five-member Gurdwara Board.
The ordinance was replaced by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwaras Act, 1971, passed by Parliament, providing for a committee to be elected by Sikh vote. Elections took place under the supervision of government authority and the new body called Delhi Sikh Gurdwaras Management Committee (DSGMC) came into existence in 1974. Under the provisions of the Act, the elections must take place every four years.
ELECTIONS
Directorate of Gurdwara Elections, Govt. of N.C.T of Delhi was established in the year 1974 by an Act of Parliament called the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Act, 1971 and rules made there under mainly to conduct the election of 46 members from the general public and 9 members by way of Co-option to the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee for a period of 4 years for which electoral rolls are prepared and revised from time to time. The Ist, IInd, IIIrd, IVth, Vth and VIth general elections were held in the year 1974, 1979, 1995, 2002, 2007 and 2013. The last general elections were held in February, 2017. The next general elections are likely to be held in the month of March, 2021. Apart from the above this Directorate is responsible to ensure that the provisions of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Act, 1971 and rules made there under are adhered by all concerned. Delimitation of Gurdwara wards and amendments in the Act & rules are also carried out by this Directorate
