The ID card also acts as a general identity proof, address proof and age proof for purposes other than casting votes. The Voter ID card is also known as Electoral Photo ID card.

It also contains a hologram sticker, a unique serial number and a stamped signature of the issuing authority. Any Indian citizen who is above the age of 18 and is qualified to be a voter can obtain the Voter ID card.
