About Andaman & Nicobar Islands
The Andaman & Nicobar Islands is a Union Territory with a single parliamentary constituency. The Union Territory is administered by the Hon’ble Lt. Governor and has 3 districts but the ADM (South Andaman) is the Electoral Registration Officer(ERO) for the entire UT accross all the three Districts. The Election department is entrusted with the function of all activities relating to Electoral Roll, Summary Revision, EPIC issue, conduct of Parliamentary elections etc.
The election department is headed by Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The office of CEO is located at the Secretariat, Port Blair. The CEO is assisted in the official activities by the hierarchy of Dy. Chief Electoral Officer (DCEO) functioning at the office of Deputy Commissioner (South Andaman), Port Blair. The concerned Deputy Commissioners function as the District Election Officer(DEO) of the District for conduct of Parliamentary Elections.
The UT has nine Tehsils and the Tehsildar functions in the role of Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO) of the concerned Tehsil.
The UT has 2.578 lakhs electors as per the published Electoral Roll of 06-01-2014 with the break up of 1,36,356 male and 1,21,500 female electors.

Political History Andaman and Nicobar Islands
Andaman and Nicobar Islands Lok Sabha constituency is the only Lok Sabha (lower house of Indian parliament) in the Union Territory of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Until the 1967 general election, the member of parliament (MP) representing this territory was unelected but directly appointed by the President of India. Its first MP was John Richardson who was nominated to represent this constituency in the 1st Lok Sabha in 1952. The next two to be nominated were both from the Indian National Congress (INC): Lachman Singh in 1957 and Lall Niranjan in 1962. The constituency's first elected MP was K. R. Ganesh of the INC in 1967. Ganesh was re-elected in the next election in 1971. Manoranjan Bhakta of the INC won the 1977 election and would go on to serve seven consecutive terms as MP from 1977 to 1999 before being defeated by Bishnu Pada Ray of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 1999 election. Bhakta was re-elected in 2004 to serve an eighth term as MP. Ray won the 2009 election, was re-elected in the most recent election in 2014 and currently serves as this constituency's MP.
